Management Courses In South Africa
Things to consider when choosing a management course
According to law, all education course providers have to register with the Department of Education.
Umalusi – The council for quality assurance in General and Further Education and Training, warned against illegal education providers: “We are very concerned about the reputation of private provision in South Africa – private providers operating illegally exploit and mislead learners and this is very damaging to the whole private education sector. There are many excellent private providers operating legally and providing high quality education but the “fly-by-night” element tarnished the image of the sector through dishonest operations”.
Higher Education: If you want to register at a private higher education college or institution, you should first consult the Register of Private Higher Education Institutions to verify whether the institution and programme are registered and accredited. You can also contact the Department of Higher Education and Training on 012 312 5254 or email@example.com, or contact the call centre on 080 087 2222 for more information.
Further Education: Detailed information on FET College programmes, qualifications and contact details of colleges are available on the Department’s website. The address is http://www.education.gov.za

Many people consider an institute’s reputation to be the most important thing. A great reputation does not necessarily mean that students receive a great education. It all depends on what you value as important. You can and should talk with students at schools you are interested in to see what they like and dislike about it. You should not be looking for recommendations as much as information.
Consider the affordability of your selected programme and find out what the hidden costs are such as postage, equipment, technologies, examinations and institute membership fees. The ideal course provider should include everything in the initial quote and offer a payment plan.
Student support and Service
This is something that distinguishes highly recommended academic institutes from the rest. Institutes who make service delivery a high priority are your best chance for success. Make sure you will have access to your tutor.
More questions to ask:
- At what level do I start?
- What does each course include?
- What method of teaching is used?
- What resources do I need in order to study the course?
- How do I know if the course is right for me?
- Will I get certified immediately after my course?
- How do I enrol?
Consider aptitude tests and thorough career counselling before enrolling. We recommend www.career-advice.co.za for more information on this topic. You are also welcome to follow the following link to do a free career test.
